Privacy Policy

The short version: Steno processes everything on your device. We don't collect, transmit, or store any of your data. Period.

1. Data Collection

Steno does not collect any personal data. We have no servers, no analytics, no tracking, and no telemetry.

2. Audio Recordings

All voice recordings are stored locally on your device in the app's sandboxed container. Recordings never leave your device. Steno does not upload, transmit, or share audio files with any third party.

3. Transcription & AI Processing

Speech recognition is performed entirely on-device using WhisperKit. AI analysis (summaries, action items, calendar events, reminders) is performed entirely on-device using Apple's Foundation Models framework. No data is sent to external servers for processing.

4. Third-Party Services

Steno does not integrate with any third-party analytics, advertising, or data collection services. Optional integrations (Notion, Todoist, Obsidian) are user-initiated and require explicit configuration. These integrations only send data you explicitly choose to export.

5. Data Storage

Recordings are stored in your device's local storage
Settings are stored in UserDefaults (on-device)
API keys for optional integrations are stored in the iOS Keychain
No data is stored in iCloud or any cloud service

6. Permissions

Steno requests the following permissions:

Microphone — Required to record voice memos
Calendar (optional) — To add detected events to your calendar
Reminders (optional) — To create reminders from detected action items

7. Children's Privacy

Steno does not knowingly collect information from children under 13. The app does not collect information from anyone.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated revision date.
